Z Visiting Heather & Friend at the Veterinary Office 1994

I was born and raised in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.  My husband Mike and I currently share our home with a pair of Boxer boys named Two and Drei (German for 3) and an old cat, Spot.

I acquired much of my knowledge about animal health while working as a veterinary assistant for a local veterinarian (1988-1995). During that time I also attended various animal nutrition workshops and seminars.

After losing our first Boxer, "Z", at the age of 5, to stomach/intestinal cancer, I started to seriously question additives and preservatives allowed in pet foods/treats.  In fact, the more research I did the more alarmed I became - why all the chemicals and artificial colors?  I felt I could do a much better job and developed my own dog treats.

My dogs are my babies (no children, just dogs!), anything I can do to make their lives better is my main concern.  In fact, my German Boxer, Two, was diagnosed with a congenital heart disorder (Pulmonic Stenosis) when he turned a year old.  We took him to the University of Minnesota Vet school where he underwent an operation (valvuloplasti of his pulmonary valve) to correct this problem.  All went well and he is thriving today!
